i don't type is built as a private Mac speech-to-text utility. The product is designed to avoid hosted accounts, hosted transcript storage, and i don't type-operated transcription servers.
What i don't type processes
When you start a dictation, i don't type records microphone audio so it can turn speech into text. Depending on the model selected in the app, transcription runs locally through Local Whisper or through Apple Speech on your Mac when available.
What stays local
- Dictation history is stored locally on your Mac.
- Dictionary words, trigger preferences, model settings, language settings, microphone choice, and storage settings are stored locally on your Mac.
- i don't type does not operate a hosted transcript history service.
What i don't type does not collect
- No i don't type account is required.
- i don't type does not upload your audio to a i don't type server.
- i don't type does not host your transcript history.
- Website analytics do not include audio, transcripts, dictionary terms, local history, or app settings.
Website analytics and checkout
The website uses Plausible Analytics to count aggregate page views, file downloads, outbound clicks, and launch CTA clicks. Plausible is used without product transcript data. Lifetime checkout is handled by Stripe; Stripe processes payment details, receipts, taxes, fraud checks, and related billing records under its own terms and privacy policy.
Permissions
i don't type asks macOS for microphone access to record speech. It may ask for Accessibility permission so it can paste generated text back into the app or field you started from. Without Accessibility permission, i don't type may fall back to copying text to the clipboard.
Support
If you contact support, the information you send in that email is used to reply and debug the issue you reported. Do not send sensitive audio or transcripts unless you deliberately choose to include them.
